Solidarität mit den Streikenden in Polen

Nachdem das Verfassungsgericht in Polen im Oktober vergangenen Jahres Schwangerschaftsabbrüche bei einer schweren Fehlbildung des Fötus und damit faktisch komplett verboten hatte, wurde das Urteil – das seinerzeit vom polnischen Episkopat gelobt worden war – nun am Mittwoch im Gesetzblatt veröffentlicht und erlangte damit Gesetzeskraft. Schon bislang gab es jährlich weniger als 2.000 legal durchgeführte Abtreibungen, nun werden noch mehr polnische Frauen und Queers gezwungen, ihre Schwangerschaft illegal (mit allen damit verbundenen gesundheitlichen Risiken) abzubrechen oder dies im Ausland zu tun.

Im ganzen Land kam es daraufhin wieder zu massiven Protesten. In Warschau zogen mehrere Tausend Demonstrierende vor das Gerichtsgebäude sowie die Zentrale der PiS. Vor dem Verfassungsgericht wurden hunderte Menschen eingekesselt, bei Minustemperaturen und ohne Zugang zu sanitären Einrichtungen stundenlang festgehalten. Das Staatsfernsehen fabulierte: „Will die Linke ihr Capitol?“, nachdem Protestierende auf das Gelände eingedrungen waren. Weitere Aktionen sind auch in den kommenden Tagen geplant, am vergangenen Freitag fand eine zentrale Großdemo in der Hauptstadt statt.

Liebe Streikende in Polen,

wir stehen weiterhin solidarisch an eurer Seite und unterstützen euren Protest gegen die fortgesetzte menschenunwürdige Behandlung der Frauen und LGBTIQ+ und die Beschränkung nicht nur ihrer, sondern auch der Grundrechte all derer, die nicht den nationalistischen, patriarchalen und rechtskatholischen Vorstellungen der Herrschenden entsprechen. Wie unsere Schwestergewerkschaft, die Inicjatywa Pracownicza, sind wir der Auffassung, dass der Kampf für Arbeiter:innenrechte, für eine herrschaftsfreie Gesellschaft nicht nur auf dem Feld besserer Bedingungen am Arbeitsplatz und höherer Löhne geführt werden muss, sondern auch auf dem Gebiet der sozialen Sicherheit und des Gesundheitsschutzes. Als feministische Gewerkschaft haben wir ebenfalls die Bedingungen unbezahlter Arbeit und die reproduktiven Rechte im Blick.

Wir sehen eure Wut, die vor allem junge Leute erfasst hat und sich nicht nur gegen die Regierungspartei PiS, sondern auch die bislang als unantastbar geltende Institution Kirche richtet. Laut Umfragen sprechen sich über 70% der Menschen in Polen gegen eine Verschärfung des Abtreibungsrechts aus. Wir freuen uns in diesem Zusammenhang auch, dass der Stadtrat von Nowa Dęba (Karpatenvorland), den Beschluss, sich zur LGBT-freien Zone zu erklären, nun aufgehoben hat.

Wir wünschen euch viel Kraft und Ausdauer für euren Kampf und Zusammenhalt angesichts der zu erwartenden Repressionen, die von einer allzu oft straffrei agierenden Polizei ausgehen und euch u. a. am Mittwochabend in Warschau getroffen haben.

Solidarity with the strikers in Poland

After the Constitutional Court in Poland last October banned abortions in case of a severe foetal malformation and thus de facto completely, the decision - which was at the time praised by the Polish episcopate - was now published in the Journal of Laws on Wednesday and thus had legal force. There were already less than 2,000 legally performed abortions each year, and now even more Polish women and queers will be forced to terminate their pregnancies illegally (with all the associated health risks) or to do so abroad.

Then again, massive protests broke out throughout the country. In Warsaw, several thousand demonstrators marched in front of the court building and the PiS headquarters. Hundreds of people were surrounded in front of the Constitutional Court, held for hours in temperatures below freezing and without access to sanitary facilities. After protesters entered the premises, state television spun a yarn “Does the left want their Capitol?". Further actions are planned also in the coming days, with a central mass demonstration taking place in the capital last Friday.

Dear Strikers in Poland,

we continue to be by your side in solidarity and support your protest against the constant inhumane treatment of women and LGBTIQ+ and the restriction of not only their, but also the fundamental rights of all those who do not conform to the nationalist, patriarchal and right-wing Catholic ideas of the ruling class. Like our sister union, the Inicjatywa Pracownicza, we think that the struggle for workers' rights, for a society free of domination, must be waged not only in the field of better conditions at work and higher wages, but also in the field of social security and health protection. As a feminist trade union, we also focus on the conditions of unpaid work and reproductive rights.

We see your anger, which has caught young people in particular and is directed not only against the ruling PiS party, but also against the institution of the church, which until now has been considered sacrosanct. According to surveys, over 70% of people in Poland are against tightening abortion laws. In this context, we are also pleased that the city council of Nowa Dęba (Subcarpathian Voivodeship) has now repealed the decision to declare itself an LGBT-free zone.

We wish you much strength and perseverance for your struggle and solidarity in the face of the repression to be expected from a police force that all too often acts with impunity and which hit you in Warsaw on Wednesday night, among other things.
